Introducing: MTV Iggy
If you are a regular visitor of Pretty Damn Epic you’ll know that I pride myself on the fact that I present the latest, most up-and-coming songs to you on an (almost) daily basis. I love discovering new talent and seeing their careers grow over time; a small example of this being when I first heard a demo of “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga back in 2008 and I knew that the industry was about to change in a big way. Three years later she’s sitting on top of the business as you’ll know all too well.
Last week, I received an e-mail from Justin Touchette from Wiredset, asking me to take a look at a new MTV brand called MTV Iggy. He called it a “premier place to discover emerging trends from around the globe” and I must admit I was intrigued. A quick trip to the site and a couple of minutes spent in the videos section introduced me to a whole variety of brand new up-and-coming artists from different markets across the globe. It became clear to me that this is a site where you have to set aside an evening to be able to get the most out of it, so that’s my plan for this coming weekend. The site features news, videos, photo’s and blogs and contains everything from completely outrageous music to the latest about your favourite commercial artists (See their post about Dev‘s new video for “In The Dark”). While not everything will be to your specific taste, it is a great way to open yourself up to some music that isn’t specific to your culture, or music that isn’t so typically standard around the world.
Make sure you check out www.mtviggy.com and be sure to e-mail me (email@example.com) if you want to give me a heads up about your site (or a site) that features up-and-coming artists you want me to take a look at. MTV Iggy is definitely one to save for the bookmarks.
