Starships were meant to fly, hands up and touch the sky – can’t stop cause we’re so high, let’s do this one more time

2012 is in full force and a couple of big names are getting ready to release brand new studio albums in the coming months. A prominent name in the industry for the last two years, Nicki Minaj is getting ready to release the follow-up to the very successful Pink Friday on April 3rd! Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is the official title of the album (which Minaj claims is not a re-release, even given the how the title is constructed) and whispers of Dr. Luke and Ester Dean collaborations are getting me really excited for the project . Promo singles “Stupid Hoe” and “Roman In Moscow” didn’t generate as much buzz as anticipated but luckily the RedOne produced first single “Starships” has premiered and is already climbing closely to the top on iTunes; currently it is sitting at #5. A dance track not dissimilar to “California Gurls” (Katy Perry), “Starships” is a guaranteed hit for her given the popular nature of female led dance tracks in the industry at this point.

Official sources cite that four tracks off’ the new album will be produced by RedOne and I’m excited to hear what else this combination can bring to the table. It’s good to see him take a break from producing for Lady Gaga and it is also a good sign to hear that his signature sound has changed a little bit in “Starships” – while I’m a fan of his work I have to admit that his tracks started feeling very repetitive over the last couple of months. Keep an ear out for the rest of the tracks and make sure you support Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded when it hits stores in two months.
