I need your love, I need your time, when everything’s wrong, you make it right – I come alive, I need to be free with you tonight, I need your love
The man of the moment, Calvin Harris is slowing absolutely no signs of slowing down ahead of the release of 18 Months on October 29! The Fly Eye/Columbia release is going to feature some of the biggest singles of the last two years including “Bounce”, “Feel So Close”, “Let’s Go”, “We’ll Be Coming Back” and more recently the Florence Welch power dance smash “Sweet Nothing”. I am particularly excited for this release and was pleasantly surprised last week when I heard that we would be hearing yet another new single before the official release of the album!
“I Need Your Love”, which premiered on Thursday, features British pop sensation Ellie Goulding (“Lights”, “I Know You Care”) and is Harris in his element as to be expected. A mixture of “Where Have You Been” (Rihanna) and “Call My Name” (Cheryl Cole), the club thumping track is ready for the dancefloor and simultaneously a potential hit radio single for too. Harris’ signature style is prevalent throughout and lyrically the track is decent. In my opinion it would be a smart idea to sample this to American stations next, considering there is a lot of his music circulating in the UK but he hasn’t quite established himself in North America yet (even though “Feel So Close” performed well). I was hooked to “I Need Your Love” on first listen and am excited to see it featuring not only on 18 Months, but also on Ellie’s latest project Halcyon, which is out this week. Look out for my review of her album here on Thursday the 11th.
18 Months is definitely one of the most anticipated albums of 2012 and I am looking forward to hearing it in its entirety by the end of the month. Album tracks that haven’t yet been released (though few and far between) include “Green Valley”, “Mansion”, “Drinking From The Bottle” (with Tinie Tempah), “Here 2 China” and “Thinking About You”. Keep an eye out for Calvin for the remainder of the year and look towards him building on his international career as DJ and producer as 2013 approaches. If you like what you’ve heard from him, purchase his music online via iTunes or Amazon and keep an eye out for his new album at the end of the month.
