I belong with you, you belong with me – you’re my sweetheart
The Lumineers are a Colorado based band establised back in 2005 that I’d like to introduce to you today. These guys are currently making waves in the industry thanks to the release of an unsuspecting acoustic/indie hit called “Ho Hey”! Released as the first single from their self-titled April released album, the song gathered early attention initially after featuring on an episode of Vampire Diaries, and later it was used in a promotional campaign for Microsoft. Written by Wesley Schultz and Jeremy Fraites, the song can best be described as simple and elegant with a string of lyrics that can only tug on your heartstrings. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been seeing the song in a bunch of press releases and on charts online but I didn’t take the time to listen to it until this evening and I have to say that I am very impressed. This is the kind of song you post to Facebook and tell your friends about, because it’s just so damn good.
Commercially it currently sits in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK singles chart has seen it peak at #8 too. I am always so happy when an alternative song finds its way to mainstream and a track like this is good enough to not be tarnished by intensive airplay. Six new mainstream format stations are spinning this one as of this week and the additional exposure has helped the track reach #3 on iTunes at the moment, with the video on the verge of 20 000 000 hits. Support these guys if you are a fan of their music and make sure you send this song to your someone special if you have one.
