Oh, if I could go back in time when you only held me in my mind – I wish you were the one, wish you were the one that got away
I’ve never been too big on country music but I’ve been a fan of The Civil Wars since their collaboration with Taylor Swift for The Hunger Games called “Safe & Sound”! They’ve been pretty quiet for the last seven months after announcing a hiatus, citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition“. I wasn’t optimistic that they would be putting out music again anytime soon but it seems time has worked its magic and brought them to the point of reuniting to put out some new material at long last. The track I want to share with you today – “The One That Got Away” – was released just two days ago and I’ve been spinning it on repeat since I heard it. The song will serve as the lead single to their upcoming second album, which is due August 6th. No word on how the differences in the group were resolved but I’m a fan of the single and I am hoping the new project will deliver the type of quality I’ve come to expect from these guys.
“The One That Got Away” has quite a dark country feel to it and I like it for it’s lyrical content too. I’m hoping this one won’t just get spins on country radio and that mainstream/Top 40 will give it a chance as well on a couple of stations but only time will tell. It does sound like a song that would do well if coupled with a TV series and hopefully public response to the fact that their hiatus has ended will help them build on the fan base they established last year. Keep and ear and an eye out for these guys and be sure to support the song if you like what you hear by buying it on iTunes or requesting it on your local radio station.
