We live in cities you’ll never see on screen, not very pretty but we sure know how to run things – you know we’re on each other’s team
Lorde is on the fast track of global success following the progress of her current single “Royals” in the United States! At the moment the track sits at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the young Kiwi is just two weeks away from releasing her debut album Pure Heroine in the last week of September so the timing could not be more perfect! While I would have loved for “Tennis Court” to be the follow-up single in the US (an absolute standout track) her label has opted to go in another direction with the release of track six on the album (and one I get to introduce to you today), which is called “Team”. A hit from first listen, the song picks up nicely from where “Royals” leaves off and initial response online has been overwhelmingly positive. It has more of a feel for radio than “Royals” in my opinion and this one is definitely confirmation for me that she is going to be one of the biggest young popstars on the planet in the next year. I enjoy her music in particular because it is far more unconventional than the pop music that is currently dominating the airwaves and I still can’t help but ignore the fact that she is only 16, yet able to write so incredibly well. Her music has a definite darker pop influence and I have a feeling we’re heading into an era of that as we look to 2014.
Be sure to check out “Royals” and “Tennis Court” if you haven’t heard of her before today and make sure you support the singles by buying them online via iTunes. Yesterday I heard a live version of another track off’ the album called “Ribs” (“Laugh until our ribs get sore, but that will never be enough”) and it has made me even more excited at the prospect of her 10 track debut. I’ll be sure to get my copy on the day of release and look for a review of the album very soon. In the meantime let me know what you think about Lorde by dropping me a tweet to @conradwashere and enjoy the new single!
